When it comes to designing fireplace mantel arrangements, there are many options. The mantel is the shelf that sits above your fireplace and is a perfect place to showcase your favorite decor items. One rule of thumb when it comes to interior design is that odd numbered arrangements are pleasing to the eye. Therefore if you were to put a group of candles on your mantel it would be best to use one, three or five for the most esthetically pleasing look. Candles are a great item for a mantle because you can find pillar, votive and taper candles in every imaginable size and color. Picture frames are another popular item to group on a mantel. This is another area where you can mix and match various colors, styles and sizes of frame as long as you keep them in odd numbered groupings. An elegant mantel might include both candles and picture frames containing photos of loved ones.

Floral arrangements are also great for your mantel. There are so many different ways of arranging flowers. You can go modern with a single bloom in a silver vase, or romantic with a full, abundant arrangement of flowers and foliage. If you want to keep your mantel bare, consider placing a mirror or work of art above it. A bare mantel can be dressed up with a tapestry runner that slightly hangs over the sides. Of course you can also put your decor items on top of a tapestry runner as well. When it comes to decorating your mantel area, the sky's the limit.
